Discovery
School
is a full state primary school, educating children from year 1
to year 8. The school has experienced significant roll growth
in recent years and an enrolment scheme was implemented in 2004
to manage this growth. The intention of the scheme is to
stabilise the school’s roll at around 440 children at the end of
each year.
The school opened in 1976 with three variable
teaching space blocks, an administration block, library and
dental clinic. Since that time eight more classrooms have been
added to the campus, the library and administration blocks have
been extended and remodelled and a resource storage area, and a
hall/community centre have been built. Each teaching block
comprises carpeted areas, cloak and storage areas and small
withdrawal spaces where teachers may work and small groups or
pupils may work independently.
Classes are designed in syndicate groups of three
to five classes. Within each syndicate teaching staff work
together in planning, implementing and evaluating programmes in
all areas of the curriculum. By using the different skills and
talents of the teaching staff in each syndicate in this way,
children are able to access a wider and more complete range of
teacher skills. |
