Discovery School operates an enrolment scheme, copies of the scheme can be obtained from the school office. The purposes of the scheme are to:

1. To maintain the highest possible standard of education delivery to students attending the school.
2. To avoid overcrowding at the school and maximize the school’s ability to plan.
3. To ensure that undue pressure is not placed on the resources of the school.
4. If required, to limit numbers of students enrolling using pre-established criteria.
5. To give priority of entry to those students living in the home zone.
6. To maintain some flexibility in enrolments in order not to exclude more children than is necessary to meet the above objectives.

Children whose normal place of residence is within the home zone described in the scheme have absolute right of entry to Discovery School.

Twice each year the Board determines the number of places which are likely to be available in the following half-year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. This information is published in the Kapi-Mana News and the school newsletter. This effectively means there is one enrolment period for Terms 1 and 2 and one enrolment period for Terms 3 and 4.

If there are more applications for enrolment from out of zone than there are places available a ballot will be held. At times when it is necessary to hold a ballot parents will be informed of the results in plenty of time to arrange enrolment at another school for their children if they are unsuccessful.

Parents of both in-zone and out of zone pupils need to complete an enrolment form (available from the school office). If a pupil is turning five a birth certificate is required to confirm their birth date, together with immunisation verification.

Emergency contact numbers asked for on the form are important in providing support to children if a parent cannot be contacted. Parents are encouraged to arrange a visit/tour of the school before enrolling.
