Discovery School Parent Teacher Association
DSPTA
Term 2 - Readathon - Monday 20th April to Friday 1st May 2026
DSPTA Readathon will begin Monday 20th April and finishes Friday 1st May. This is one of our major fundraisers for 2026. We will be celebrating a love of reading and asking our tamariki to get sponsorships for reading lots of books/pages and minutes over the school holidays. The readathon will be happening in the first two weeks of term 2, with a Book Week parade and Book Character Disco happening on Friday 1st May. Booklets have been sent home so please start collecting Sponsorship for the readathon.

Fundraisers
A large portion of the DSPTA's fundraising goes directly back into the school community, reducing the amount parents/ caregivers are asked for throughout the year.
Our main fundraisers are our annual raffle, Read-A-thons (every other year), school events like Discos, sausage sizzles which are as much about getting the community together and holding events kids enjoy as raising funds, as well as Community Events like Discover Christmas.
We also have a few ongoing fundraisers that we get a kickback from products sold.

Sausage Sizzles
This year we’re trying a slightly different approach to our lunchtime sausage sizzles, with the aim of sharing the workload more evenly across our school community. Each classroom will be assigned to one sausage sizzle during the year, for which we’d love support from the parents and whānau from those classes to run.
