Hero Reporting

The Learning Experience Platform That Transforms Primary Instruction.

Hero Reporting Posts (Formal Progress)

Reporting posts are formal, individual comments specifically about your child’s progress in relation to the New Zealand Curriculum.

  • What they include: These posts describe what your child has achieved, any challenges they have faced, their mindset towards the subject, and how they are progressing overall.

  • Next Steps: For Mathematics and Literacy, every post will clearly identify a specific next learning step to help you understand how to support your child's growth.

  • Visuals: Most reporting posts will be attached to an artefact, such as a photo of their work, a slideshow, or a video, so you can see the learning in action.

  • Frequency: You will receive three reporting posts per term, with two posts in Term 1.

2026 Reporting Schedule

To ensure a balanced view of the curriculum, our formal reporting follows this seasonal focus:

  • Term 1: Health, School Values, and a General Comment (social/behaviour/work ethic).

  • Term 2: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, including Overall Teacher Judgments (OTJs) shown through progress charts.

  • Term 3: Two Conceptual Curriculum areas (e.g., The Arts or Science) and a General Comment focused on school values and vision.

  • Term 4: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, including year-end progress charts (OTJs).

  • Each term, your child’s attendance figures are available via Hero.

  • Learning Conversations will take place mid year, which involves a meeting between you, your child and their teacher.

Learning Journals & Sharing Posts (Informal Updates)

In addition to formal reporting, we use Sharing Posts to celebrate ongoing learning. These are often student-led and offer a less formal look at what is happening in the classroom.

  • Juniors: A minimum of 2 posts per term, plus weekly emails to parents (often including photos).

  • Middles: 2–3 posts per term, weekly information emails, and fortnightly emails containing photos.

  • Seniors: 3–4 posts per term, with fortnightly information emails and photos shared directly via the learning journal.

Proactive Communication

We believe in a ‘no surprises’ approach.  If a student is not making the expected progress, teachers will contact parents directly to discuss support rather than waiting for a scheduled reporting post.

Instructions

Instructions for Accessing your Child’s Reporting and Learning Posts via the Hero App

Reporting posts are found in the ‘2026 Report’ section of Hero.

Sharing posts are found in the ‘Learning Journal section of Hero.

From the Hero home screen, click on the 3 lines in the top left hand corner.

Next to your child’s photo, click the down arrow and you will see the link to the 2026 Report or the Learning Journal.

Clicking on your child’s photo provides a shortcut that will take you straight to the reporting posts.

If you go to the account tab at the bottom of your home screen, you can check that your notifications are set to default - this will ensure you get notified of posts as they are sent throughout the year.

If you need help finding any of this, please come and see us in the office - we are happy to help!

Looking Ahead: Ministry of Education Updates

The Ministry of Education has recently published new 2026 requirements for all schools, which include standardised "Progress Descriptors" in reports.

We want to assure you that our leadership team is currently reviewing these national guidelines to determine what further adaptations may be needed for our school’s reporting system later this year. Our goal remains to provide you with the most consistent and high-quality information possible.

If at any point you have any questions about your child’s progress and achievement, please contact your child's teacher.  Information below shows how to access the reports via the Hero App.
