At Discovery School our mission statement is "educating for successful living". We work hard as a school community to make "successful living" a reality for our children. We want all our children to experience success at Discovery School; not just in an academic sense but also culturally, physically and socially.
I firmly believe in the importance of the partnership between parents and the school. We need to work together to ensure that Discovery School provides the most effective learning environment possible for our children. We welcome parents and seek to develop a positive working relationship with them. We have an open door policy and encourage you to share your knowledge of your child with us.
As a staff we have the improvement of children's learning as our major focus. We endeavour to provide a community, in which children are motivated, challenged and supported and enjoy learning.
We place great emphasis on the development of basic skills in literacy and numeracy throughout the entire school; literacy and numeracy teaching continue to be very important aspects of all our teachers' professional development. Other staff development areas this year include, writing, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and the further development in our approach to inquiry learning. This year, primary schools will also be focusing on the continued introduction of national standards in literacy and numeracy and the associated reporting requirements.
